“The many Screen Tests evidence a variety of behavior of its portrait subjects, but amazingly little improvisation. The subjects actually look like they are captured and about to be interrogated, but the interrogation never happens, because Andy wanted to capture the essence of the person only, no interference, just like no interference with the camera as it recorded each “moving” still-life.”

Allen Ginsberg, Dennis Hooper, Salvadore Dali, Edie Sedgwickn and many other Factory’s icons… They have all been filmed by Andy Warhol in his serie of screen tests.

For the launch of the new fragrance, “PoP Collection”, the brand CoSTUME NATIONAL makes a tribute to Andy Warhol’s screen tests with personalities from art, fashion, cinema, literature…. The new pop generation. The mood behind the fragrance project, repetition & variation of the same object by Andy Warhol, has inspired communication and production. Analogic films and photographs appear to be the perfect alternative to digital technologies these days: the infinite modernity.

The screen tests are the reproduction of the same format with variations in each piece. All screen tests are filmed in black & white with a super 8 camera. 10 screen tests / 10 Personalities from New York to Paris. They have been choose for their charisma and their personal approach of Pop culture in all areas : fashion, music, cinema, literature, art… The screen tests reveal and enhance the beauty of each talent talent, their fragility, their force and singularity. It’s an attempt to capture the essence of their personality:

After five years of gloriously self-imposed exile from gainful employment as artist-in-residence and creative director of Bidoun Magazine and Bidoun Projects: an award winning non-profit initiative devoted to art, culture and change in the Middle East, and following his recent nomination for an MTV Video Music Award for best art direction for his music video “Power” for Kanye West— Babak Radboy launches this gorgeous portfolio site, marking 5 years of amazing projects and his availability for the first time for commercial projects.

During the last five years Bidoun has quietly and consistently been breaking new ground in the world of editorial design becoming one of the most avant-garde magazines in print — blurring the traditional boundaries between design, content and process; journalism, art and politics.
