this bookcase/room divider by ettore sottsiss from 1981 is an iconic piece of memphis design from the milan-based collective he spearheaded - it was a watershed period in design - kitsch and gaudy - before that he was art director (1957-1977) of the much cooler poltronova just outside florence who manufactured all the radical archizoom designs of the period, including the slinky superonda sofa in 1967
