last week in 1981, richard avedon shot ‘nastassja kinski and the serpent’, which was printed in silver gelatin and released the following year in a limited edition of 200 which were signed and numbered, also appearing as a gatefold cover of photo magazine - this wednesday, one goes on sale at christie’s in london, estimate £20,000 - £30,000, lot 23/sale 7722 - at the time, stylist polly mellen wished she’d removed the ivory bracelet, now almost as iconic as the photograph itself
