with the 2nd real target, he is revisiting an original piece from 1986 that itself was based on the first real target of 1961 - the target as a subject matter was the result of the dialogue between the artist and jasper johns - johns’ paintings of a target in 1960 prompted blake to respond, a kind of homage and challenge to johns, taking john’s idea even further
